Breeding Program We currently mate around 750 females per annum. We mate 250 cows, 3 times a year, in June, September and December. All cows are A.I.’d to Te Mania Semen Sires and backed up with young bulls. All cows have EBV’s and are recorded on the Angus Commercial Registrar. We are a progeny test herd member of Team Te Mania. Calving We have an 8 week calving period, where 75% of calves are born in the first 2 weeks due to the A.I. Cows are supplemented with silage pit grazing at calving All calves are tagged, castrated and weighed at birth.
Early Weaning We do an early weaning program where the calves are weaned prior to the joining of the cows. This has lifted our pregnancy rates from 85% to 95%. All calves are grain fed in a weaning feedlot until they hit a critical weight before they are put out onto Lucerne pastures and rotationally grazed until sale.
